Barret Place Historic Estate Sale

2524 Fairfield Avenue

Shreveport, LA 71104

Thomas C. Barret served as Lieutenant Governor of Louisiana from 1912 to 1916, following a sixteen-year tenure as a Louisiana State Senator. Prior to his political career, he practiced law alongside Newton Crain Blanchard, who also held positions as Governor and State Senator in Louisiana.

Barret Place, erected in 1908, occupies land that has been in the Barret family’s possession since the mid-1800s. Renowned architect and geologist John Y. Snyder designed the house in the iconic Neo-classical style.

In the mid-1990s, Charles Bingley Amie, grandson of Senator Charles Bingley Huson,  acquired and meticulously restored Barret Place. He was passionate about collecting European and American antique furniture and art, adorning his home with pieces from various eras. Noteworthy items in his collection include several original furniture pieces from the Barret family and the complete library of Thomas C. Barret, housed in four rare seven-stack Globe-Wernicke barrister bookcases.

Step into 7,000 square feet of enduring traditional interiors designed for gracious and comfortable southern entertaining. The front gardens, gazebo, and expansive porch beckon visitors to relax and admire the majestic oaks, with numerous iron benches scattered across the lawn.
